When you just say “compatibility with your boss,” it sounds simple, but lately I’ve been realizing it’s actually an incredibly important factor in working life.
At first, having a “kind boss” seems great, but in reality, sometimes they’re careless about everything, and when it really matters, they just look the other way and slip out.
On the other hand, someone who was known as a “strict boss” or even a “bullying boss” might actually be very straightforward about their work, and you can learn a lot from them.
You never really know which type you’ll get along with until you experience it yourself.
When I was fresh out of school and completely clueless, I ended up on a fairly big project with a “strict boss.”
I’d heard the rumors: “Mr. I is strict.” But when I met him for the first time, I couldn’t quite connect that rumor about “Mr. I” with this person standing in front of me.
So I just went, “Nice to meet youuu!” with a big smile.
And then the project started, and oh boy, it was rough…!!
I got scolded so much!!
I didn’t even understand what I was being scolded for half the time, because I just didn’t know anything.
I must have thought, “I can’t do this anymore! I want to quit!” hundreds of times.
But you know, while being scolded in the moment felt awful, once I calmed down, I’d think, “Well, actually, what he said was true.”
Then I’d feel like, “Okay, next time I’ll do it this way!”—like I was actually making progress.
Before I knew it, I’d become close enough with that boss to joke around with him.
I’ll continue this story next week♪
