ピアノの先生　My Piano Teacher

私は昔数年ピアノを習っていた。

ピアノは本当に好きだったけど、どうしても勉強や部活が忙しくなってしまって泣く泣く辞めた。

基本的には教本を順番に練習していたけど、「これを弾きたい！」と言ったらチャレンジさせてくれる先生だった。

色々な曲が入っているCDが家にあったのでよくそれを聴いていて、ショパンの華麗なる大円舞曲を弾いてみたいと思った。

今思えば当時の私は全く技術が追いついていなかったけど、CDで聴く分にはとても軽やかで好きな曲だった。

先生はすぐにOKしてくださった。

でもやっぱり難しかった。。！！！😩😩

一向に弾けるようにならないので先生に「やっぱり難しいのでまた教本に戻ってもいいですか？」と相談したところ笑いながら「いいですよ〜」と言ってくださった。

後日母から聞いたら「この曲を弾きたい！と言ってくれることが嬉しい」と先生はおっしゃっていたそうで私の無謀な要望を肯定してくれていたらしい。

でもこの曲にチャレンジしたことで、基礎練習の大切さがわかったり、弾けるようになりたい！というモチベーションになった。

実は別の習い事では基礎本しか弾かせてもらえず、「この曲を弾きたい」とお伝えしても「今のあなたには早い」と言われて弾かせてもらえなかったことがある。そしたらだんだんモチベーションがなくなって結局辞めてしまった。

そんなこともあってピアノは今でも好きで、もし時間があればまた習いたいな、と思ってる。

あの先生のところで！

I used to take piano lessons for several years when I was younger.
I truly loved playing the piano, but eventually schoolwork and club activities became too busy, and I had to quit even though I really didn’t want to.

Basically, I practiced through the lesson books in order, but my teacher was the kind of person who would let me try anything if I said, “I want to play this!”

We had a CD at home with lots of different pieces on it, and I listened to it often. One day, I decided I wanted to play Chopin’s Grande Valse Brillante.

Looking back now, my technique at the time was nowhere near good enough, but when I listened to the CD, the piece sounded so light and beautiful that I loved it.

My teacher immediately said yes.

But of course… it was incredibly difficult!!! 😩😩

No matter how much I practiced, I just couldn’t play it well, so I eventually asked my teacher, “It’s harder than I expected… would it be okay if I went back to the lesson book?”
She laughed and said, “Of course!”

Later, my mother told me that my teacher had said, “I’m happy whenever a student says, ‘I want to play this piece!’”
Apparently, she had supported even my reckless request.

But challenging myself with that piece taught me how important basic practice really is, and it also motivated me to become good enough to play it someday.

Actually, in another extracurricular lesson I took, I was only allowed to practice the basic textbooks. Even when I said, “I want to play this piece,” I was told, “That’s still too advanced for you,” and they wouldn’t let me try. Eventually, I lost motivation and quit altogether.

Maybe because of experiences like that, I still love the piano even now, and if I ever have the time, I’d love to take lessons again.
