The other day I attended a New Year’s gathering for ikebana.
Most of the people there were those who had helped out at the recent school exhibition, and as expected, everyone was full of energy.
At the exhibition they were proactively helping and cleaning up, and even though I’m one of the younger members, I was completely worn out.
And on top of that, they take lessons in other things, go mountain climbing as a hobby (even though they look like gentle, elegant madams! lol), and even climb Mt. Fuji with their children.
That level of vitality is amazing…! But I guess it’s because they have that much energy and take on everything with a positive, challenging attitude that they succeed.
At the start of the New Year’s gathering, our teacher gives a greeting every year.
“Last year was a year of challenges, and this year I want to keep challenging myself as well. Taking on challenges is a wonderful thing.”
It really is true that like attracts like—motivated people naturally follow a teacher like that.
People who are constantly challenging themselves look lively and youthful.
You never run out of things to talk about with them.
I want to become an adult like that too.
